چکیده
Measurements of the one-point probability distribution function and higher-order moments (variance, skewness, kurtosis) high-redshift 21 cm fluctuations are among most direct statistical probes non-Gaussian nature structure formation evolution during reionization. However, contamination from astrophysical foregrounds instrument systematics pose significant challenges in measuring these statistics real observations. In this work, we use forward modelling to investigate feasibility through a foreground avoidance strategy. Leveraging characteristic wedge-shape k-space, apply wedge-cut filter that removes contaminated modes mock data set based on Hydrogen Epoch Reionization Array (HERA) instrument, measure image-space representation remaining non-contaminated modes. We experiment with varying degrees wedge-cutting over different frequency bandwidths find centre band is least susceptible bias wedge-cutting. Based finding, introduce rolling method allows reconstruction an optimal 21~cm intensity map full bandwidth using outputs multiple sub-bands. perform Monte Carlo simulations show HERA should be able rise skewness kurtosis near end reionization if leakage Fourier transform window can controlled.

Foreground Contamination in Interferometric Measurements of the Redshifted 21 Cm Power Spectrum
Subtraction of astrophysical foreground contamination from “dirty” sky maps produced by simulated measurements of the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) has been performed by fitting a 2-order polynomial along the spectral dimension of each pixel in the data cubes. The simulations include the effects of the frequency-dependent primary antenna beams and synthesized array beams and recover the one-d...
متن کاملAn improved method for 21-cm foreground removal
21-cm tomography is expected to be difficult in part because of serious foreground contamination. Previous studies have found that line-of-sight approaches are capable of cleaning foregrounds to an acceptable level on large spatial scales, but not on small spatial scales. In this paper, we introduce a Fourier space formalism for describing the line-of-sight methods, and use it to introduce an i...
متن کاملWill point sources spoil 21 cm tomography ?
21 cm tomography is emerging as a promising probe of the cosmological dark ages and the epoch of reionization, as well as a tool for observational cosmology in general. However, serious sources of foreground contamination must be subtracted for experimental efforts to be viable. In this paper, we focus on the removal of unresolved extragalactic point sources with smooth spectra, and evaluate ho...
متن کاملDetecting ionized bubbles in redshifted 21 cm maps
The reionization of the Universe, it is believed, occurred by the growth of ionized regions (bubbles) in the neutral intergalactic medium (IGM). We study the possibility of detecting these bubbles in radio-interferometric observations of redshifted neutral hydrogen (HI) 21 cm radiation. The signal (< 1 mJy) will be buried in noise and foregrounds, the latter being at least a few orders of magni...
متن کاملImproving Foreground Subtraction in Statistical Observations of 21 Cm Emission from the Epoch of Reionization
Statistical observations of the Epoch of Reionization using the 21 cm line of neutral hydrogen have the potential to revolutionize our understanding of structure formation and the first luminous objects. However, these observations are complicated by a host of strong foreground sources. Several foreground removal techniques have been proposed in the literature, and it has been assumed that thes...
